Reception

The Reception curriculum continues and builds upon the fun learning experiences from Nursery.

From your child’s first day with us, we plan to ignite their natural curiosity and enthusiasm for learning through carefully planned opportunities for purposeful play and  adult-led activities.  Play is essential for children’s development, building their confidence as they learn to explore, think about problems and work with others. All reception and nursery students have access to indoor-outdoor free flow learning so they are encouraged to make choices for themselves and to direct their own learning.  We promote a nurturing environment within our early years, we try to ensure the children are happy, secure and eager to come to school to learn.  Our reception children follow the EYFS curriculum.  The children are taught through 7 areas of learning that are split into 17 different aspects.  The phonics programme that is used in Reception is called 'Sounds Write'.  Children are taught daily phonics lessons to help them become confident readers with a love of reading.

Forest School

As part of the superb facilities at Bridgwater College Academy we have three Forest School learning environments. All Foundation Stage (children in Nursery and Reception) and Key Stage One children have access to Forest School. Each Reception and Key Stage one child will attend Forest School once a fortnight with our highly trained member of staff alongside their teacher or teaching assistant, and every nursery child will access Forest School based activities on a daily basis.
