Bridgwater College Academy

Ofsted

Ofsted has now published its report following the inspection of Bridgwater College Academy on 10 March 2026.

The report confirms that the academy requires special measures. We accept the findings and recognise that urgent improvement is needed. The report identifies significant weaknesses in achievement, attendance and behaviour, curriculum and teaching, inclusion, leadership and governance.

Ofsted also confirmed that safeguarding standards are met. This means that the academy has the required safeguarding arrangements in place and that concerns are identified, acted upon and managed.

There have been very recent changes to the leadership of the academy and Trust. The new leadership team began work  this academic year. Since then, immediate action has begun, supported by the new CEO of Bridgwater and Taunton College Trust, Trust leaders, governors and external school improvement partners.

Our urgent priorities are clear:

  • improving behaviour, routines and safety across the academy
  • improving attendance and reducing persistent absence
  • strengthening teaching, assessment and curriculum delivery
  • improving support for pupils with SEND and disadvantaged pupils
  • strengthening leadership, governance and accountability

We will communicate regularly with parents, carers, staff, pupils and the wider community as this work progresses.

This report is difficult, but it gives us clarity. Our focus now is on rapid, sustained improvement so that every child at BCA can achieve.
