Bridgwater College Academy

Polden Centre ASC Resource Base

Bridgwater College Academy (BCA) has a Local Authority funded Autism Resource Base for KS3/4 students, based on the main site of the Academy.

The Polden Centre is an inclusive, specialist provision for students with a diagnosis of autistic spectrum disorder (ASC) or significant language and communication need.

Each student allocated a placement at the Polden Centre has an EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) or Statement of SEND. Placements are agreed by the Local Authority, in consultation with BCA. The Polden Centre currently offers 24 placements.

Students within the Polden Centre are taught either by a specialist SEND teacher or HLTA, supported by a team of teaching assistants. Students are also supported, when appropriate, within the mainstream environment by the centre staff.

Full details of provision and curriculum is detailed in the Polden Centre Rationale.
